A jog in the park: Guv helps Dems run
With just under four weeks to go before what some are calling the most important election in generations, politicos and supporters are girding their loins for the home stretch. Although Virginia typically leans Republican, having Democratic governor Mark Warner in office is bringing hope to Democrats in the Old Dominion.
Saturday, October 2, marked the "Take Back America '04 Miler," a four-mile race in which local Dems laced up the Asics and slapped on their stickers of support.
Despite the muggy morning, 196 runners, 100 walkers, and 60+ spectators showed up for a jog that ended with a political rally featuring Warner, Congressional candidate Al Weed, and State Senator Creigh Deeds at "The Park" at UVA Law School.
After Kerry's strong showing in his first debate with President George Bush, the crowd was energized and hopeful. Weed, Deeds, and Warner chanted the Democratic mantra and touted Warner's approach in tackling Virginia's financial troubles.
The rally was also a big plug for Al Weed, who's challenging Republican incumbent Virgil Goode for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
