Outcomes for the students, annual statistics

Regarding the federal law which UVA appears to have violated in its gag orders on sexual assault cases [November 11 cover story: "How UVA turns its back on rape"], the Clery Act does not require the public release of the dates and outcomes of student disciplinary hearings.

What it does require in sexual assault cases, according to Dan Carter, a vice president of Security on Campus Inc., are two things:

First, both the accused and accuser must be unconditionally told the outcome. Second, unless determined to be unfounded by a police investigation, the outcome must be included in the overall annual statistics.
