Times Squared: Shawn of the living

Charlottesville's best-known HIV-awareness activist, Shawn Decker, enjoyed a burst of fame on World AIDS day, December 1, in this electronic billboard in Times Square. The photo of Decker by Hook  photographer Jen Fariello was part of an MTV-sponsored loop of young activists. Decker, who has hemophilia, was infected with HIV in the mid-'80s while a middle-school student in Waynesboro.
