Michael Wegner- 1979 Pontiac Firebird

Although 31-year-old Michael Wegner works at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, his favorite mode of transportation is undoubtedly his 1979 Firebird TransAm, the first car he ever bought.

"I knew I wanted it long before I bought it," says the Ruckersville resident. "It's the perfect combination of European style and American power. It used to have the best handling, braking, and accelerating of any car in the U.S."

Wegner considers Virginia roads the best in the country and likes to take advantage of local attractions: he's driven to every vineyard within 100 miles of Charlottesville.

"With the overdrive five-speed manual transition I installed, it handles the mountains really well," he says. "I love taking it out around here."
