Will leaders speak out?

In light of your report of the two September 25 assaults on UVA students ["4Better or Worse," September 29] by gangs of African-American men (joining similar reports from the recent past of black-on-white violence in our area, such as 2002), I have to wonder: Will our self-appointed and financially rewarded Paragons of Racial Awareness such as Rick Turner speak out against the perpetrators of such violence, demanding justice and programs to target the offenders?

Surely, these brutal assaults merit the same attention and condemnation that met the despicable racial utterances that recently troubled our community. The usual silence of so-called "civil rights" leaders on this will only garner more disrespect for them and the growing non-universalist movement they lead.

And that will be a shame.
