Fringey trio: Three locals featured in D.C. theater festival

Three Charlottesville-based artists are among the line-up at this year's Capital Fringe Festival, a prestigious multi-week assemblage of the performing arts in Washington D.C.

They are Stevie Jay, who performs a monologue about life, love, sex, and death (and bearing those words as its title), Adelind Horan with a one-woman piece about mountaintop removal, and Joel Jones, who calls his 37-minute drama Life Insurance.

Jones plans to give Charlottesville audiences an admission-by-donation preview this Sunday, July 10 at Vivace restaurant on Ivy Road at 8pm and 9:30pm.

"One-person shows bear a kindred spirit," says Stevie Jay, "a longing to tell one's personal stories in a way that reminds audiences of the universal joys and struggles we all share as human beings."

Stevie Jay, who has performed extensively in Northeast theater and on college campuses, says he's always glad to take his show on the road.

"Frankly," he adds, "I've always regarded Charlottesville's embrace of my work as a fluke– one for which I'm eternally grateful."

The Festival runs July 7 - 24.

Great mention. Thanks Hook! and thanks Stevie Jay. Might I mention, for Cry of the Mountain, which is also going to the Edinburgh Fringe in August, if you come from Charlottesville to the Capital Fringe, we'll give you cookies and we'll buy you a beer in the Gypsy tent.
