Local Tibetans pray for Chinese
While we’re talking about China’s travails trying to host the 2008 Olympics in the aftermath of devastating earthquakes, we should mention that local Tibetans are having a prayer vigil for Chinese earthquake victims Friday night between 8 and 10 on the Downtown Mall at 2nd Street NE, and according to a press release, the Chinese Students and Scholars Society of UVA will attend. The Statler Brothers threw in the towel almost six years ago, but their fans are still Countin’ Flowers on the Wall. The back side of the new Virginia National Bank office on Pantops may be almost as interesting as the money-grab opening from earlier this week. Here, we see the newly extended Spotnap Road, which the developer, Bill Dittmar, converted from a long-time dead-end into a connector between Riverbend Drive and eastbound traffic on Route 250. More buildings are eventually expected in the back yard, but a recent request for jumbo signs was rejected. (0)

To Coran Capshaw’s many sources of income for his music empire, perhaps he can now add “television revenues.” Today, organizers of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival— of which Capshaw is a co-owner— announced that six hours of this year’s shows will be broadcast live on the Fuse Network, June 12-15.
