Fine Virginia cuisine with a French touch using local ingredients. Exceptional wines. Right across from the Amtrak station.
The HooK
L'etoile restaurant has been owned and operated by Mark and Vickie Gresge since it's inception as The Tea Room Cafe in August of 1993. L'etoile offers a bistro style lunch from 11 to 2:30 Tuesday through Friday, and offers French-Virginian style fine-dining from 5:30 to 9:30 Wednesday through Saturday. We purchase the freshest ingredients from local farmers and infuse them into dishes from the mind of Chef Mark Gresge and Sous-Chef Brian Wilkinson using French culinary techniques. We also offer a variety of desserts prepared on the premise by Mark Gresge. Reservation are encouraged, but not required.

Always just rightL'etoile
There are places in town that stand out as hip, and with time, they don't change, and they are shortly thereafter, forgotten....
L'etoile is the opposite. Never hip, always perfect. If you are looking for the finest food prepared using classical techniques and served in a crisp environment, this is the place.
The hole in the wall that never seems crowded, but is always full. I adore L'etoile because it embodies what other restaurants want to be, but miss because they follow trends. You will know you are not in New York, after all, you chose to live in Charlottesville for a reason. There is no pretending at L'etoile. No "tasting menus", no "cocoa caviar", no pieces of slate instead of porcelain on which to serve your food. They aren't trying to mask exactly what they are.
Fresh, fresh, fresh. A menu that reflects Virginia produce and proteins.
Few spots in town are as spot on.
