Jicks joined by West... and even a Dead cover

College rock icon and UVA grad Stephen Malkmus brought his Jicks (his band) and his buddy and former bandmate Steve West (born in Charlottesville) to the stage of the Jefferson Theater September 30 for a show that included plenty of banter including the concept of having sex on acid with your parents watching while getting crapped on by DMB's tour bus in Chicago with the Doors blasting in the background. Speaking of the Doors, West's contribution was joining for a jagged rendition of "LA Woman." Malkmus even threw in a Dead cover, "Deal," to thrill a new generation of college kids– and infuriate the hipsters.

Yo son when that L.A. Woman joint dropped I was like Ohh Shi&*!!!

i wasn't infuriated when he played "LA Woman" (i'm not a hipster, either), but it is interesting to note that this show happened exactly 10 years to the day after malkmus came to starr hill music hall AND that he played "LA Woman" at that show as well (in a covers medley with "Sister Ray" and Elastica's "Connection").
