"Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" SHOULD win, though its chances are slim. And no, as the critics said, it doesn't focus on the larger implications of 9/11, but it does illustrate the enormous impact on a child, and in doing so is, in my opinion, the most moving, real and bravest depiction of a gifted youngster ever put on screen.
