Do you think the General Assembly will let Helen Dragas stay?

Let's not forget that there is a difference between what is likely to happen and what SHOULD happen.

She'll stay. Money talks, everything else walks.

there's no doubt she'll keep her job. the GA is bought and paid for, mostly by dragas and her friends.

Yes.

Sure they will -- Forbes just ranked UVA 36th in the Nation and it was also the highest ranked public school. McDonnell and Compnay will not rock this boat.

But .... they still have the most covered up campus rapes in the nation. I guess one leads to the other......

I do not. This entire affair is such a black eye for the Commonwealth that I suspect her appointment will not be confirmed. The GA has to run very soon and the number of UVA alumni and friends around the State could well change the outcome of many elections. There are fewer and fewer safe seats or safe districts in the GA. The split between parties is close to 50 / 50 and the recent reelection of President Obama and the election of Tim Kaine suggest our fair legislators might want to do the right thing here if they want to retain their seats in the GA. Virginia is a State of long memories!

With rankings up, donations up, applications up, and powerful lawmakers saying that Dragas is a voice that has to be heard, while presently not winning the popularity contest, she will deservedly be confirmed.

Dragas needs to resign. President Sullivan is responsible for the rankings, student app. increases and retention of faculty & staff. President Sullivan is responsible for the increase in donations.

Maybe you with all your negative talk of Dragas resigning is the problem. News flash: I seriously doubt she will resign now that your belittling, degrading, pathetic campaign against her is clearly having no affect. If transparency is what you are after, Weekend Reader, Eurohoo, and all of your aliases, then why don't you sign your real name?

Will she keep the appointment - yes. The 'tradition' of letting governors have their choices in boards is pretty strong.

It's a shame, and it shows the politicians don't believe in open government. Dragas followed the law regarding open meetings. Approving her appointment and failing to address the weaknesses in the open meeting laws that allowed this to happen show that even those in the legislature who oppose her reappointment think secret operation of government agencies is ok.

If merit prevails, Helen Dragas will go. On the other hand, if money & politics wins, she stays.

She will be asked to leave. The members of the Virginia legislature are, in the lion's share, smart, honest, uncorrupt and honorable people, and they will do the right thing. Why should the Commonwealth put up with such a continuing international embarrassment that is even being watched by Transparency International? It is well past time for the previously untarnished University to move beyond the disaster of last Summer, and -- of course -- the only way to do that is to remove the woman who is solely responsible, Ms. Dragas. To the extent that others were complicit in her wrongdoing, they will have no wrongdoer to follow, and will likely be able to govern effectively going forward.

I still don't get blaming Dragas and I am reading more and more that the legislators don't either. Eurohoo, you should seek counseling for your misplaced anger. You are the embarrassment here. I wish you the best in your recovery.

Thanks for your concern, Chris. You really don't "get" much. Do you? I suppose you can sell your position and your ignorance of what is right to all the politicialns who are on the take. Thank goodness for those who are not.

I just emailed everyone I know asking them to email Delegate Bell and oppose her nomination. He is the only elected official in my district still on the fence. Both Delegate Toscano and Senator Deeds oppose her. To find out who represents you go to
