Excellence, not affluence, the benchmark

This is in response to your recent article about Clark Elementary ["Stigmatized," July 22]. We are parents of a rising third grader at Clark and two former Clark students.

We were highly offended by your article. To allude to the fact that were there more "affluent and well educated " parents at Clark that the SOL scores would have been higher is deplorable.

Are you suggesting that children from low income families cannot perform well? Or are you merely suggesting that all of the parents at Clark are poorly educated? We're not sure since the article went into such little factual detail about our school.
