Published July 8, 2004, in issue 0327 of The Hook

The Hook is pleased to note that two of the national cartoons we publish won awards in the annual contest of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies.

"Slow Wave" by Jesse Reklaw won first place, and the "The City," by derf (John Backderf) came in third.

Kudos also went to "This Modern World" by Tom Tomorrow, which came in second; and "Tom the Dancing Bug" by Ruben Bolling received an honorable mention.

While the latter two cartoonists opted not to make the jump to the Hook when most of the creative staff left another Charlottesville weekly upon this paper's inception in 2002, we wish them well at this auspicious moment of victory.
