QUESTION OF THE WEEK- What should be the punishment for sexual assault?
Published November 11, 2004, in issue 0345 of the Hook
Travis Harris: "First, the person should go to some kind of rehabilitation and counseling to find out the reasons for their behavior. If it was a male assaulting a female, they may feel they are superior and they may have trouble with a sexual addiction. Maybe there should be some type of legal action, maybe prison or community service."
Art Vutiprichar: "It should definitely be worse than the penalty for an Honor offense. The Honor System is huge here, but a sexual offense is a lot worse than cheating on a test."
Daniel Stabile: "The most important thing is to reform the offender. I think that is often lost in our justice system. Prison terms have never seemed to serve as a deterrent; however, I do think sexual assault in terms of severity is equally reprehensible or more so than many crimes that receive longer punishments."
