CLARIFICATION- Kariel's in charge

Published February 10, 2005, in issue 0406 of the Hook

For the second time in 12 months, the Hook understated architect David Kariel's role in designing the Terraces, a massive mixed-used building developed by Oliver Kuttner [February 3 cover story: "No more Mr. Bad Boy: Kuttner bows out of downtown development"]. While Giovanna Galfione, an architect with RGBC, created the initial design and guided Kuttner through the Board of Architectural Review approval process, Kariel was the "architect of record." As such, he was responsible for all the construction drawings, put his architectural stamp on the documents, designed interiors, decided on exterior details and materials, coordinated things during construction, provided drawings to the BAR, and took all legal responsibility for the design.
