Coors to expand Elkton facility

Coors Brewing Co. plans to expand its Elkton facility to the tune of $24 million.

The move announced January 4 will add eight new jobs to the mix at the plant and permit Coors to speed up production.

"We are so proud that Coors has selected the Shenandoah plant for this additional investment," says Robert Machado, vice president and general manager of Coors Shenandoah. "Our vision is to become the safest and most productive brewery in the world."

In 2004, the company announced plans to open a brewery at the Shenandoah facility.

"A second expansion in less than two years demonstrates Coors' great success in Rockingham County," Gov. Mark Warner says, adding that he has approved a $250,000 performance-based grant to Coors through the Virginia Investment Partnership Program.

Visulite reborn with grand opening

A former Hollywood screenwriter's dream is now officially a reality.

The Visulite Theater in Staunton opened its doors Friday, January 6, after more than a year of renovation by New York City native Adam Greenbaum.

The theater opened with the showing of The Squid and the Whale, the story of a family torn apart by a painful divorce, starring Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney.

"My philosophy is that there's a growing market for films that aren't necessarily studio films," Greenbaum says.
