PHOTOPHILE- Changeable: Wounds move to aid learning

Published March 16, 2006 in issue 0511 of the HooK.

By BILLY HUNT [email protected]

Everyone knows that robots can vacuum floors, build cars, and ultimately replace us as productive human beings, but how many people know that they save lives? At the Statewide Nursing Simulation Conference March 9 and 10 at UVA's School of Nursing, healthcare professionals and academics gathered to highlight strategies for using new technology to do just that.

Russell Smith demonstrates the use of interchangeable body parts to Tanya Hoff.

Reba Childress, left, speaks with Zoila Ortega.

Angela Hayes watches while Kristy Chambers programs in symptoms.

Elizabeth Marshall holds an interchangeable wound at the conference reception.

Caroline Ward, a third-year nursing student, uses an IV simulator.

Simple simulators are still used to train students in a variety of tasks.
