Wow-- the city has been talking about these lots forever! I think it was ten years ago that the Observer (remember the Observer!?) ran pictures of some warehouse-style designs somebody like Huja was pushing? Then, about five years ago, Oliver Kuttner was saying that the City should build a mammoth underground parking deck and sell off the air rights in about a dozen chunks. The idea was that that would foster architectural diversity, just as he demonstrated in his design for the Terraces project, which is supposed to look like several smaller buildings rather than one behemoth. He did a good job with that, just as Mr. McNair has done with this story.
