SPECIAL GREEN- Editor's note

Drive around Charlottesville long enough, and you'll see it-- the seemingly ubiquitous bumper sticker imploring people to "Think Globally, Act Locally."

When it comes to preserving the environment, many people apparently have taken those four words to be more than a slogan. Beyond recycling, beyond turning off lights, beyond walking to work, Central Virginians are actively pursuing ways to be more green in just about every facet of their life.

Want to make your home more energy efficient? Two local architects say they've designed a house that uses fewer resources to build and less power to keep at a comfortable temperature. Do you use skin care products but want more environmentally sound creams and lotions? One local businesswoman says she has the answer to salve both your skin and your conscience. Enjoy an omelette in the morning but feel bad for the chickens? A former Charlottesville mayor tells you what to look for when seeking the most hen-sensitive eggs.

In putting the Hook together every week, we always seem to find some new way people are trying to save the planet. Taking their lead, we've revisited some of the developing stories that have so many local folks agreeing that it's easy being green.
