CORRECTION- Judge speaks, Starr Hill's closed

Published August 9, 2007 in issue 0632 of the Hook

Because of a production error in the July 26 story, "Poor? Don't get arrested in Fluvanna," Judge Roger Morton's response did not make it into the paper:

Roger Morton, the presiding judge for Fluvanna General District Court, requested the Hook's questions in writing and then referred the paper to the Code of Virginia and the Procedures and Guidelines Manual for the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia. "I do not feel it would be appropriate for me to comment further," writes Morton.

And in "Rampage: Home invasion adds to attack fears," the victim of a July 22 attack on West Main was walking in front of, not leaving, Starr Hill restaurant.

Judges are not allowed to answer any comments or questions in the press. This is likely why The Hook did not receive a more personal response from Judge Morton.

As for "Don", I have appeared in front of Judge Morton numerous times in Madison, Culpeper, and occasionally in Orange. I have found him to be a fair, decent, honest judge.

I am aware that the justice system does not always reach one's desired outcome, but personal attacks on the judge make matters much worse.

By the way, in his court, the General District Court, you have a right of appeal to Circuit Court, with a new trial before a different judge.
