Maureen Lovett: "Every year, my family makes an annual bet, so our New Year's resolutions are in the form of, like, reading three books a month for 12 months, and then we get paid [by our parents] $200 at the end of it if we do it. We've been doing it since middle school. One year I gave up sweets for a whole year; another year I ran pretty consistently."

Dan Sheets: "Yes. Last New Year's I made a resolution to lose 15 pounds, and I lost 20."
