Louisa Revenue Commissioner wanted 28x

by Hawes Spencer

According to a front page story in today’s Daily Progress, the Louisa County Commissioner of Revenue had the nerve to demand $1.6 million for land her own office had assessed for just $55,900.
According to the story, Commissioner Nancy Pleasants and her family argued that when VDOT seized part of her 9.17 acres along the Route 208 Bypass that they deserved compensation that valued the entire parcel at 28.6 times the amount her own office had assessed the land.
According to the Progress, the Commissioner’s lawyer argued that the Commissioner’s family deserved $350,000, including damages, for the .773 acres VDOT seized for the Bypass and that the value should be higher than the assessment because the property has significant building potential. According to the Progress, a five-member body under direction of circuit judge Timothy K. Sanner ruled that the compensation for the land seizure should be $240,000.
