Webb to Allen camp: ‘go find a Third World dictator’

by Lindsay Barnes

On October 27, Senator George Allen got the political world talking with a press release excerpting particularly graphic passages of the novels authored by his Democratic opponent Jim Webb. What effect that will have on the election remains to be seen, but eight days away from Election Day, it’s clear that Webb is not taking it lying down.

At a rally at the University of Virginia’s Newcomb Ballroom, Webb concluded his speech by saying, “These mean spirited, simple minded, power hungry character assassins need to go find a Third World dictator to work for.”

The remark came after Webb addressed the “flavorful manner” in which the Allen campaign had presented his writing by simply reading from reviews of the excerpted novels for nearly two minutes.

“I’ve led a literary career and I’m proud of it,” said Webb. “I’ve written about what I’ve seen. If you’re an honest writer, you’re going to write about the world you see in all its beauty and all its ugliness.”

Asked what exactly he meant by that last line of his speech, Webb would only say, “Use your imagination.”

Webb’s got it all wrong, as usual. If his party takes over Congress, it’s more likely that we’ll ALL be working for a Third World dictator. That’s what people need to remember when they go to the polls next week.

What a crock! With the current administration we have lost more rights than ever - the republician’s claim they want less government - but we actually now have more government control.

Has anyone seen the film Runaway Jury? Well - think about it - and realise congress - is as vulnerable as the jurors on that jury - perhaps it’s possible that the current dictators pulled the same type of manipulation to get the security act and other delightful controls passed. Has anyone ever read it? (One can access it with google or foxfire).

I’m not saying we don’t have to be concerned about foreign terrorists - but we should also be aware of terrorists within - our own government/country.

Here comes K Smith again, parrotting the GOP party line. K Smith, what do Third World dictators do? Suspend the right of people to public trials? Hold people indefinitely without actually charging them with a crime? Intimidate the people (or the people’s representatives) to keep them from investigating what’s actually going on? Boldly ignore existing and new laws when they feel like it? Create military and political situations that enrich their benefactors? Send troops into battle without adequate tools, and base such actions on pure, proven lies? Have their goons assault people who dissent and disagree? Have a member of the “loyal” media (a Fox News reporter) read a written question to the White House Press Secretary, who reads the response directly from his notes?

The coup begins in one week. The investigations begin in January. It won’t be pretty, but your “heroes” are going to go down and it’ll take an entire generation for you and your kind to even smell power in America again. That’s what makes America great - the actual power resides in the people (something you and the Bushies like to forget), and when we the people get screwed by the government we remember it for a very, very long time.

Veterans running for office this cycle are almost all Democrats. and they are VICIOUSLY attacked as being unpatriotic by people who never served.

    * President George Bush - daddy got him into the National Guard, bumping hundreds of applicants ahead of him in line, and he respected his service by not showing up for duty.

    * VP Dick Cheney - numerous deferments, by marriage and timely fatherhood.

    * Karl Rove, occasional Deputy Chief of Staffand alleged full time smear artist, escaped the draft and did not serve

    * Secretary of State and former NSA Condaleeza Rice - did not serve

    * Republican Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist - did not serve.

    * Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert - did not serve.

    * Republican Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay - did not serve.

    * Rush Limbaugh - did not serve

    * Sean Hannity - did not serve

    * Ann Coulter - did not serve

    * Bill O’Reilly - did not serve

Bush and his tribe have tried to turn America into a Banana Republic. Didn’t work. Time to pay the piper.

    Deal with it.

AMEN and Thank you very much - if it upsets people - good! We need to be aware of the TRUTH. We have to get our heads out our respective bums and vote resposibily!!!

First of all, if we went into battle without adequate arms, we can thank the 8 yr Clinton admin and their cuts to the military for that. When we were attacked on 9-11, only 8 months into Bush’s presidency, there certainly hadn’t been time to rebuild the military that the liberals tore down. In fact, that’s probably a big reason we were attacked when we were….the terrorists knew how vunerable our military was. They watch the news too, you know.

As for those in my party who have served or have not served, it was their CHOICE. In most of the cases you sighted, the draft was not in effect and, as is the case today, our men and women may choose to serve their country militarily or otherwise. I’ve got nothing against those “educated” individuals who don’t serve their country….we all must make our own choices. HOWEVER, had any of those listed above been 19, 20 years old on 9-11, the majority WOULD have served, and not just stood around belly-aching on the sidelines, swearing to leave the country if Bush is re-elected (how many of THEM are still here?). Remember World War II? Our distinguished “stars” such as Jimmy Stewart, Eddie Albert, Tyrone Power, etc., who, along with 100’s of thousands of others fell all over themselves to enlist? Remember them? Where are those patriotic “stars” today? Badmouthing our President, who deserves the same respect that I gave to Bill Clinton throughout his entire debacle, and poisoning the hearts and minds of the public with the filth they consider entertainment today. Oh, how times have changed.

So, yes, AMEN and thank you very much. If it upsets people, good. And it obviously does, or you wouldn’t be pointing the finger at Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, etc. because they “did not serve”. I’m sure in spite of their lack of military participation, I expect that they do more to serve their country than you do.

Your way with words reminds me of a Karl Rove swift boat script - it is obvious who is pulling your strings!

There are none so blind as those who will NOT see - and Denial is not just a river in Egypt. Take off the blinders - sir…

Ma’am, if you please. And no one pulls my strings. I happen to be a free-thinking, PRO CHOICE, conservative. I also think the wealthy, of which I am far from, should pay their fair share of taxes and then some. But even more important than those things are the safety and freedom of my family, friends and neighbors right here in this country, conservatives and liberals alike. And for that reason, I am pro-conservative when it comes to the safety and security of this country. Most liberals don’t have the balls to stand up to other countries/foes. That’s why Joe Lieberman is in the race of his life now, because he “goes against the grain”. Things may change drastically come election day, but for the sake of our children and grandchildren, I hope not. And, yes, before you ask….at least one of my children is military and another met with recruiters this week. I realize the danger. I also realize the danger needs to not seep onto American soil again.
