The Corner radio takes off, Bush daughter engaged to Darden student, Serial rape suspect indicted

ON THIS WEEK’S COVER:
Savage’s beast: How The Corner took a bite out of local radio
It’s less than a year since they’ve been on the air, but 106.1-FM WCNR, otherwise known as “The Corner,” has already become an airwaves-eating behemoth. How did they do it? Figuring out this new Frankenstein’s monster of local radio begins with its master, young programming director Brad Savage, but where does it end? With the demise of fellow alternative station WNRN? With a connection to music mogul Coran Capshaw? Questions abound and we’ve got the answers.

ALSO IN THIS WEEK’S ISSUE
Jenry? Bush daughter to marry a Darden guy
Never mind the potential thrill of the first White House wedding since Tricia Nixon’s more than three decades ago. What Charlottesvillians really want to know is will Jenna Bush be hanging out at Blue Light? Or will she prefer Mas or Zocalo? Let the speculation begin now that she’s engaged to Henry Hager, the son of former Lt. Gov. John Hager and current student at UVA’s Darden School of Business.

Sealed order: DNA confrims part of serial rape case
Police confirm that DNA from serial-rape suspect Nathan Antonio Washington matches genetic material from two local attacks, but authorities remain mum on developments in five other cases they’ve long said were committed by the same man. The arrest warrant obtained by Albemarle police is sealed, as is the judge’s order to seal it. So, why all the secrecy?

Mourned: Historic Woolen Mills dam remembered
Even the most ardent supporters of taking down the Woolen Mills dam felt pangs of emotion as the breach, long in the works, finally started on August 14. Within two days, the bulk of the historic dam was in rubble, and the rain-muddied Rivanna flowed free for the first time in nearly two centuries.
