Last night, Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore was re-admitted to UVA Hospital “due to complications stemming from his recent accident,” according to a statement on the band’s website. This news comes two weeks after the band announced that doctors had upgraded Moore’s condition from fair to good following an all-terrain vehicle accident on his farm outside Charlottesville. No word on what Moore’s current condition is, and calls to UVA Health System, and to the band’s management were not returned at the time of this post.

On June 30, while taking a break between shows outside Washington, D.C. and in Charlotte, Moore was injured while riding an ATV and rushed to UVA Hospital in serious condition, which UVA defines as “vital signs may be unstable, and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill.” The next day, doctors upgraded Moore’s condition from serious to fair, and a week later, his condition had improved to good.

To date, neither the band nor the hospital has discussed the nature or the extent of Moore’s injuries.

While one of their founding members recuperates, Dave Matthews Band continues to tour in Moore’s absence. Since the accident, Jeff Coffin of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones has taken over sax duties on the band’s North American tour. A week after the accident, Coffin announced on his website that he would be filling in for the remainder of the tour.

Fans who want to send their well-wishes to Moore can do so by sending e-mails to [email protected] or cards and letters to P.O. Box 1467, Charlottesville, VA, 22902.

LeRoi, LeRoi, LeRoi…might be time to retire. Clearly the band can go on without you…

  • LEROI, THAT'S WHO July 23rd, 2008 | 5:13 pm

Might be time to retire because he was in an accident? Get real. His fans miss him dearly and he is irreplaceable. Whoever you are, I really wish you luck if you ever get in an accident and others think hey, we can go on without this guy. You’re no fan at all.

LeWho? What a crass, ignorant, and heartless remark to make when a REAL man and musician is down and hurting.
You should be 1/100th of the person that LeRoi is.
But, we won’t waste our breath on a souless nothing like you, instead we give our care, hopes, and love to someone who deserves it - and that happens to be LeRoi Moore - that’s who!

We hear the horns playing LeRoi…come back and join them soon!

I can’t stand Dave Matthew’s music but I hope LeRoi recovers soon.

only thing that matters is a person getting better… Bottom line, how awful to discuss anything else but the hopes for LeRoi’s well being…

Their music is great. The vocals are another matter entirely

Leroi is the man, any one who says Lewho can’t call themselves a DMB fan. Leroi and your family my thoughts and prayers go out to you.
    God Bless.

Wow, some DMB fans aren’t too sharp.

First off, best wishes to LeRoi - Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.

My point was, clearly he is irreplaceable - ever heard the name Jeff Coffin? I just think it’s not so cool that DMB just marched right on without missing a single beat while their bandmate was obviously pretty messed up - and apparently still is.

The band could have postponed a few dates and spent some time supporting LeRoi bedside. They’re supposed to be a family right? You wouldn’t take at least a little time off to be with your family member? Especially when they’re clearly not doing so well?

And it isn’t a money issue. The band has enough money to take whatever financial hit they would have taken by postponing even a few dates.

I believe the Dave Matthews Band and their extended family are perfectly capable of making their own decisions. Who are you to even presume to know what Leroi Moore thinks, feels, or wants?

Unplug. Your sarcasm is not worth our precious pixels.

What to say? I have been a fan of DMB for quite sometime now and I am grief stricken by the loss of Leroi. The few times I met him he was always very polite and pleasant to be around and I will never forget the time I spent with a wonderful man. Leroi’s music touched the very soul of his fans and colleagues but he will be most remembered by this fan not only his contributions to music and humanitarian causes but by the way he loved life and made those around him better people. Rest in peace Leroi, you’re playing your your ultimate jam!!!XOXO

LeRoi … rest in peace. Seeing the shows later this month will have a whole new level of intensity … almost feels wrong … my heartfelt compassion to his family and friends and fans.
    what you see is human.

I am very saddend.Despite just seeing the band last weekend and thinking the shows were great, you couldn’t help but think you were cheating on LeRoi. Thanks for all you have given! Hope you are in a better place.
