The sun sets over over the Blue Ridge and Beaver Creek Reservoir, a Crozet-area water body whose 104-acre surface provide anglers and occasional sailors— such as the one piloting the 14-foot Hobie Cat seen here— with recreational opportunities. While beautiful, the evening of Thursday August 12 offered almost no wind after 6pm. (The captain of the ship explained the boat’s hand-painted moniker, “Alright Janice,” as a reference to a tv commercial about another kind of wind.)

Sailing ? –that’s a first. I’ve lived here many years and nary a sailboat have I seen. What a wonderful way to spend an evening, away from all the electronic devices of modern life, and Beaver Creek couldn’t provide a more beautiful vista of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Maybe a new business venture for a hungry entrepreneur . A sail shop in Charlottesville.

A Hobie Cat on the water in Albemarle County? Wahoo! More peaceful than Lake Anna for sure.

How wonderful to see the Cat on Beaver. Decades ago I rigged a sail on a canoe in Beaver. Capsized for lack of a dagger board but better than never.
