Albemarle police released more information yesterday about the additional five charges filed against two teens– Slade Woodson, 19, and his 16-year-old friend– who allegedly fired at five occupied cars on I-64 and shut down the interstate for hours early March 27. The pair already face 10 felony counts each in Albemarle.
According to a release, there were reports of numerous other shootings that night in Albemarle County, with eight identified in the western part of the county.
The three most serious took place on the 800 block of Dry Bridge Road, the 7000 block of Greenwood Station Road, and the 900 block of Miller School Road. Woodson, who lives in Batesville, and the unidentified Crozet teen, are charged with two counts of firing into an occupied dwelling, a Class 4 felony, and three counts of shooting from a vehicle, creating the risk of injury or death, a Class 5 felony.
Woodson has two additional felony counts in Waynesboro for allegedly firing into the home of a former friend and at the Dupont Community Credit Union, where a security camera captured his 1974 orange AMC Gremlin.
The former Western Albemarle High student appeared in court via video yesterday, and requested a court-appointed attorney. He’s being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona. The 16-year-old was in Charlottesville Albemarle Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court March 31, and being held at Blue Ridge Detention Center in Albemarle.
Police also identified the Albemarle officer who shot Yonder Hill Farm manager Edgar Dawson when police executed a search warrant at 4:48am March 28 and arrested Woodson. Tactical team member M.J. Easton, a six-year veteran currently assigned as a school resource officer, is on paid administrative leave while the Virginia State Police investigate the shooting.
