Ad rev at DP parent plummets
Print advertising revenue plummeted 21.5 percent at the Daily Progress‘ parent company, Media General, according to a story following this morning’s conference call with analysts. Strong broadcast revenue kept the publicly held, Richmond-based company from posting a loss, as it nearly did last quarter. (0)
ATO's Radiohead cashed in on once free album
U.K. rockers and ATO Records artist Radiohead finally revealed today that they sold 3 million copies of its album In Rainbows since its official release on January 1. That’s not counting the millions of times the album was legally downloaded through the band’s website since the band made it available for a purchase price of each individual’s choosing (including $0). ATO Records, founded by Dave Matthews and his manager Coran Capshaw in Charlottesville, became the American distributor for Radiohead in November, a month after the band began its “pay what you will” experiment. Sun shines on Cav victory
Early UVA turnovers led to a pair of field goals by visiting, Tech-beating East Carolina before today’s football game got dominated by the Cavaliers. At one point, the Pirates, with 20 points, got within 8; but that was before the coolest play of the day, a fake field goal in which backup Cav QB Scott Deke found John Phillips all alone (and possibly laughing) in the end zone. Murder suspect picks up another charge
Alvin Lee “Butch” Morris was in court again this morning, adding a murder-during-the-course-of-a-robbery charge to the three other felonies he faces in the 1988 slaying of Roger Shifflett, the Daily Progress reports. Morris, shown here at an earlier court date, is pictured with Shifflett’s widow, Barbara, whom he married shortly after Roger Shifflett was shot execution style at the Southwind Gas and Grocery on Route 20 south.
