Hollywood Shades opened Monday, and among the $500 dark glasses are relative 75-buck bargains. Coming next week: Dolce & Gabbana. Names, darling, names.

A Charlottesville fourth grader named Mary Campbell corrals chickens today at Staunton’s Frontier Culture Museum at the German farm. In addition to the usual farming, blacksmithing, and meat pie-making, the Museum played host to a Greek Festival today. (0)
Devon Sproule's kind of a big deal in Britain
As reported on the Hook music blog this morning, Charlottesville songwriter Devon Sproule made an appearance on the BBC program(me) Later…with Jools Holland back in February during her European tour. To give you an idea of what a coup this was for Sproule, recent guests on this late night institution hosted by the former keyboardist from Squeeze have included such platinum-sellers as James Taylor, Radiohead, Mary J. Blige, Joe Cocker, Patti Smith, Wilco, the White Stripes, and some guy named Paul McCartney. Accompanied by husband Paul Curreri on guitar, Sproule performed two originals: “Old Virginia Block,” and “Stop By Anytime.” (0)

Palin dressed as UVA alum Fey for Halloween
The day after UVA alumna and former Saturday Night Live head writer Tina Fey returned to the venerable sketch comedy program to deliver a dead-on impression of Republican vice presidential nominee Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, an adviser for the McCain-Palin campaign let reporters in on an interesting tidbit of Palin lore. Apparently, Palin’s Halloween costume last year was donning a blue blazer and a different pair of glasses in order to look like none other than Tina Fey. # (2)
Kluge #32 on Forbes 400 richest Americans list
Former Charlottesville resident and one-time richest man in America John Kluge comes in 32nd on Forbes‘ annual list of the 400 richest Americans. Despite having to fold restaurant chains Bennigan’s and Steak & Ale, the media mogul who helped create the FOX Network is still worth an even $9 billion, just behind Nike founder Phil Knight and just ahead of Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos. At age 94, he’s also the oldest billionaire in the top 100. Topping the list for the 15th year in a row is Microsoft founder Bill Gates, with an estimated net worth of $57 billion. (2)
