Local model floats through episode

After being praised last Wednesday for her photo, local America’s Next Top Model contestant Lauren Brie Harding floated through this week’s challenges without much drama or glamour. In this week’s photo shoot, the models each represented a “natural disaster,” with Harding channeling a snow storm. Although her photo last episode was lauded as one of the best, she was near the bottom of the pile this week, as the judges urged her to keep her guard up. “You have pretty pictures, but you have to work harder to reach the next level,” judge Paulina Porizkova warned. Harding moves on to next week’s episode, which airs at 8 pm on the CW.

I hope Lauren rises to the top. For Lauren’s dad, what could be better in life than having a city retirement check each month, a county retirement check each month, and a rich daughter to boot? HaHaHa!!!! I crack meself up sometimes!!

Bailout protestors take to the street
Peter Kleeman, a well-known pedestrian activist (and former Hook writer), has already begun protesting yesterday’s U.S. Senate vote toward a $700 billion financial bail-out package, which both Senators from Virginia approved. Warner and Webb vote for Senate bailout deal
After a $700 billion bailout package for financial institutions split our local House delegation and failed to pass on Tuesday, yesterday’s attempt by the Senate to pass their own version of the deal won the support of Virginia’s John Warner (R) and Jim Webb (D) and 72 other senators to secure its passage. Unlike the House measure, the Senate bill allows the U.S. Treasury to buy so-called “toxic mortgage debts” from banks and raises the limit on bank deposit insurance from $100,000 to $250,000. (11)

New CNN poll shows 13-point swing for Obama
A new poll from CNN and Time magazine shows Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) with a nine point lead over Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in the race for Virginia’s 13 electoral votes in the presidential election. Fifty-three percent of likely voters said they supported Obama, and 44 percent said they were voting for McCain, with a 3.5 percent margin of error. That’s a 13 point swing from the last CNN-Time poll earlier this month, which showed McCain with a four-point lead over Obama. Still, not all the pollsters agree. The American Research Group still gives McCain the edge over Obama, 49 percent to 46 percent with a 4 percent margin of error. (3)
