My wife and I saw the Rick Olivarez trio (minus the bass player who is out making field recordings in Peru), and it was a fantastic show. Very great musicianship, and evocative of Pais in the 30’s (think Django) with some winter and holiday themes thrown in as repartee. We had the French Vouvray (tastes like honey) and the oysters in corn meal, which were a good match. It proved to be a very romantic evening with a sentimental yet energetic vibe. My wife has been listening to the CD, Adieu Bienville, ever since. I don’t think you can get this sort of entertainment in too many places anymore. Highly recommended!
