UVA football player in trouble again
Both the Daily Progress and the Newsplex are reporting that UVA police have charged 3rd-year cornerback Michael Brown with grand larceny in connection with an automobile break-in that took place on February 6, during which items worth an estimated $3,400 were stolen. Brown was released on secured bond, says the Newsplex.
However, both reports omit mention that Brown was charged with trespassing when he was a freshman, plead guilty, and was sentenced to six months in jail. Brown and several other UVA athletes were accused of breaking into the Delta Upsilon fraternity house and starting a brawl in March 2006. However, Judge Robert H. Downer suspended the sentence, and Brown was required to complete 50 hours of community service and remain on good behavior.
Along with Brown, five other UVA athletes were charged in the trespassing incident, including soccer goalie Michael Giallombardo, women’s basketball player Enong Stovall, offensive tackle Zak Stair, offensive tackle Edwin Pinigis, and defensive lineman Vince Redd.
Less than 10 days after the March 2006 incident, Brown was back on the practice field, the Daily Progress reported. A UVA student Judiciary Committee convicted Brown of trespassing, said the DP, but dismissed the other charges against him.
“We take allegations of this nature very seriously,” Virginia coach Al Groh told the DP today. “At this time we are currently gathering the facts. In view of the nature of the allegation, Mike Brown is not participating with the program at this time.”
These are serious charges.

Our entire society seems to have no regard for the rights, property, cash or assets of other people. Not only did people lose personal property in this particular case, they also had the vehicle damages to contend with. eBaY has caused a lot of these problems as well, as in this case, with millions of people looking for good deals or hard-to-find items. Steal an iPod and list it on eBaY. Steal the center caps off somebody’s wheels and list them on eBaY. Steal a CD player out of a car and list it on eBay. Anything people can steal is easy cash on eBay with a minimum chance of getting caught usually.
