Abusive guardian convicted, free on bond

Waynesboro prosecutor Jim Camblos— well known this side of the mountain as the former Albemarle prosecutor— has won child-abuse/abduction convictions against the 46-year-old woman who repeatedly kept a 15-year-old child in a locked room with a broken toilet and no books or radio while the girl’s weight dwindled to around 62 pounds at the time of her escape last Christmas. The girl now weighs around 135 pounds, and the guardian, Billejo King of North Poplar Street, is free on bond while she awaits sentencing, according to the Staunton News Leader, which has the sordid story.
