After nearly 80 years, the old Shadwell Food Store, on a one-acre spike of land that splits 250 East and Route 231, is finally coming down. Owner Lloyd Wood (Wendell’s brother), who operates the Putt-Putt Golf Course on Rio Road, has an approved plan to build a new store, but has yet to find a willing tenant. “I don’t want it to be an eyesore, so we’re going to put it to bed,” says Wood. “In the meantime, if you know anybody who wants to open a store, tell em’ to give us a call.”
