Former Democratic National Committee chair and advisor to both Bill and Hillary Clinton Terry McAuliffe is one step closer to running for Governor of Virginia. The Associated Press reports that McAuliffe filed papers with the State Board of Elections in Richmond to form an exploratory committee for such a campaign. McAuliffe has already set up his campaign website and should he decide on January 7 to make his run official, McAuliffe will have to face State Sens. Creigh Deeds (D-Bath), and Brian Moran (D-Alexandria) for the Democratic nomination. McAuliffe currently resides in the Washington suburb of McLean.

My recollections may be fuzzy (check that - they’re DEFINITELY fuzzy), but I can’t recall the good people of the Commonwealth of Virginia having a lot of love in their hearts or on their ballots for carpetbaggers. Can’t see that changing, and don’t see him getting much party traction. If it’s a primary, he loses. If it’s a convention he surely loses.

But go for it, Terry - that ad money smells great!
