Darrell David Rice, the man convicted for attempting to kidnap a woman in the Shenandoah National Park in 1997 and whose name has long been floated as a potential suspect in various other violent crimes against women, will appear in federal court here in Charlottesville at 2pm tomorrow, Thursday, March 26 following his arrest last Thursday for a parole violation.

Brian McGinn, spokesperson for the U.S. District Attorney, did not have details of the parole violation.

Rice was released in 2007 and settled on Kent Island with family. Federal agents had been tracking him by GPS.

I doubt if this comes as a surprise to anybody. It reminds me of the Shifflett brothers locally that have been in the news so much lately…. once law enforcement gets a case of the a** for a person, they’re relentless. They will keep picking at people and place any charge they can dream up. They even shot and tried to kill one of the unarmed Shifflett brothers not long ago.

Having said the above, it will be quite interesting to see what the fine details are this time whenever released. If the charge(s) is legitimate, it still won’t change my opinion of what I said in the first paragraph above. I’ve seen some pretty stupid cops trip over their own feet trying to set up innocent people while thinking they can get by with it, and while thinking they can’t be traced as the original source of the retaliation and conspiracy.

SOLR….. if they had locked him up and thrown away the key in the first place cops wouldn’t have to bend (not break) the rules to keep the streets safe.

Despite your obvious tainted opinions, there are those of us who realize that a broken system sometimes needs unorthodox methods to function.

I think the CVPD does have some a-holes that need reigning in and that Longo needs to grow a set and fix it, but if this clown went one step over the line and they nailed him thats fine by me.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood! Good job Marshals. Since Darrell is not a teenage girl, we knew the local goober cops wouldn’t bother him.

To capn crunch - Calling Darrell a clown means you probably don’t know him. You would be talking out of a different hole if you were being treated like he is.

He had his chance to do the right thing and he repeatedly broke the rules. That has nothing to do with relentless or bad cops after him, he did it to himself. He is lucky they did not give him 2 years. They should have put him back in jail the first week when he got out and broke the rules. He keeps getting away with crimes, this time he didn’t. Kent Island can have a peaceful summer. Christmas might be another story.

capn crunch, I have no idea how your reply slipped by me without my noticing it. There’s no such thing as bending the rules when enforcing the law. A cop either goes by the book, or not.

But anyhow, I wish to thank you for 2 reasons:

1- You admit cops are corrupt.

2- You have offered a second opinion to all of those who might seek a second opinion when I say cops are corrupt.

Bending the rules! What a riot! You must be a cop? :)

To Linda “if you knew Darrell like I know Darrell” - please visit him often and remind him that he would still be on the outside if he had even a wee bit of self-control or respect for the rules of the game. Judging by the other posts on here, it is a game, and everybody plays it. Thank heavens the right guy lost this round.
